Without mentioning tear gas, Jokowi highlights the condition of the Kanjuruhan Stadium

President Joko Widodo ( Jokowi ) did not mention the tear gas fired by the police in his statement while visiting the Kanjuruhan Stadium in  Malang, East Java, Wednesday (5/10).

While speaking to reporters, Jokowi said he saw the stairs being too sharp and the stadium doors locked as problems in the Kanjuruhan tragedy. He also said that all findings in the field would be investigated by the Joint Independent Fact Finding Team (TGIPF).

Jokowi continued that the Ministry of PUPR will conduct a total audit of the Kanjuruhan Stadium and the stadiums that hold Liga 1,2 and 3 titles. He mentioned the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) stadium with a capacity of 82,000 people, but stadium visitors can leave safely.

"I think that standard is what we must have. And when I spoke on Monday with FIFA president Gianni Infantino, he said FIFA was ready to help improve existing management," Jokowi said.

"We need a total evaluation of everything, both match management, stadium management, audience management, time management, security management, everything must be evaluated in total," he added.

In addition, before going to the stadium, after visiting the victims at the Saiful Anwar Hospital, Jokowi did not talk about the use of tear gas. He only ensures that the victims who are treated will get the best service.

"I really want to know the root cause of this tragedy, so that in the future we can find the best solution. We know that an Independent Fact-Finding Team has been formed, chaired by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs," said Jokowi.

Jokowi ensured that all patient care costs would be borne by the government and local governments. He said a number of parties had provided compensation to the families of the victims who died.
